How To Download Your Emails
Click on File | Send And Receive Emails. If you have not yet set up the connection information to let Eureka know where your Internet Service Provider (ISP)’s servers are the connection settings dialog box will appear. You must fill in this information or Eureka will not be able to find the email waiting for you.
Your email will then be read and sorted according to whether Eureka thinks each email is junk or not. All legitimate emails will be put into your ‘In’ folder and each email will be represented by a spinning icon to show that you have not yet read it. If the email is from someone who is in your address book then the icon that you have assigned to that person will be used and their sound will play.
If you have received any new emails in your ‘In’ box then Eureka’s light bulb icon at the top left of the window (and in the taskbar) will light up. Once you have read all the new emails the light bulb will switch off again.
How To Send An Email
Click on either the New Email button or select Email | New from the menu. You will automatically be taken to the ‘Out’ folder and a blank email will have been created. The icon for this email is the default icon because Eureka does not know yet who you are going to send this email to and it is spinning because you are still editing it.
You can tell Eureka who you want to send this email to by clicking on one of the three buttons to either:
1. Type in an email address of who you want to send the email to by hand.
2. Add an email address from your address book.
3. Add a list of email addresses from one of your groups.
You can then type in the subject of your email and the text that you want to send.
To attach a file to this email you can either click on the Attach File button to browse for it, or just drag the file onto the Attachments section and drop it there.
Once you have finished editing your email click on the Queue Email For Sending button or click on Email | Queue email for sending. A little yellow arrow will show that this email is queued for sending and it will stop spinning to show you that you can’t edit it any more. If you change your mind you can click on the Unqueue Email button to make changes to the email.
Next click on File | Send And Receive Emails or wait for Eureka to automatically send the email if you set a time in the connection settings. The little yellow arrow will bounce up and down to show that this email is being sent.
How Eureka Detects Junk Emails And Viruses
Eureka has built up a Brain based on thousands of emails which it was told were either legitimate or junk emails. It examines every word in these emails and records which emails appeared frequently in good and bad emails and also it looks at the structure and quirks that can identify a junk email.
Each time you receive an email Eureka will assign it a score and if it is above the value you set in your user settings it will be moved to the junk folder and the brain will continually learn. If a junk email slips through and you move it to the junk folder Eureka will correct itself and be more prepared when a similar junk email arrives next time so the brain will get better adapted to the sorts of email that you legitimately receive.
Eureka will never think an email is junk if it has been sent from someone who is in your address book so you will never lose an email from people who you most commonly receive emails from.
How To Assign An Icon And Sound To My Friend’s Emails
The simplest way to do this is to wait until you receive an email from someone and then you can click on their name which will have a small green plus sign next to it to show that you can add this person to your address book. You can then click on the Icon button in the Address Book dialog box to choose an icon and click on the Sound button to choose a sound.
How To Import My Address Book
Simply click on File | Import and follow the instructions.
How To Set Up An Account For My Child To Protect Them From Offensive Email
When you create a new account either when you first run Eureka or you add a new account later, you have a check box option to say that the this account is for a child. If you select this option then any emails sent to this account which are deemed to be junk will be deleted rather than put in the ‘Junk’ folder so that the child can never get to read them. The score needed to be reached for an email to be deemed junk is set at a fixed low value to protect the child. This means that there is a higher chance of a legitimate email being lost but remember that any email that is sent from someone in the child’s address book will never be assumed to be junk.
How To Search For An Email
You can search for an email by either clicking on Email | Search or by right clicking on any of the names of the people who received the email to do a quick search.
On a quick search you can search for any of:
1. Emails sent by this person
2. Emails sent from this person’s domain (this can be useful to see all the emails sent to and from say that person’s company)
3. Emails which have the same icon as this one
4. Emails which have the same subject (i.e. are in the same conversation)
How To Backup Your Emails
Backing up your emails is easy in Eureka Email as all of your data is stored within the "Accounts" folder. Within this folder are subfolders for each of the accounts that you have created and an index file called "accounts.dat" which must be backed up also.
Simply make a copy of the whole of the "Accounts" folder onto a backup recordable CD-ROM and you can use this copy to restore all of your emails in the event of your hard disk crashing or other disaster. You can use the freely available utility WinZip to "zip" up the whole folder into one compressed archive which can be stored more easily and then "unzipped" if you need to restore your emails.
